THE STRAITS TIME week 4

Questions
Q1) In the last line, what did the writer mean by suggesting that “he may have found more porcupine then rats?"

Q2) What’s worth giving up your life for?
Answers

1. In the last line, what did the writer mean by suggesting that “he may have found more porcupine than rats?"

Rats are scardy cats who scurry away at the sound of foot steps while porcipine bristle to warn their aggressors away. The writer means that the evidence from this year`s Total Defence campaign suggest that the writer found that when there is trouble, the people who will stay in the country and fight against or warn their aggressors of attackers away with their life`s is more the the people who will flee from the country when their is a threat that will cause their life. The writer describe them as porcupine and rats as porcupine will bristle to warn away their enemys while rats will run away when they feel threatened.

2. What’s worth giving up your life for?

i will defend my life for my loves ones and friends if i have to but I cannot imagine myself laying down my life defending people outside my family circle and friends. I am also willing to give up my life for peace in the country as well as i do not want to see the future generation suffer. I will also defend Singapore with my life as Singapore is my future and is a future worth defending.

No Loitering After School (16 feb 09)

Q1) Why Coral Secondary School forbids students to idle around near their school in their school uniform?

The reason why CSS forbids students in uniform from idleing around near the school because
Coral Secondary School places much emphasis on inculcating in their students good habits like using time properly also it is because when student hang out around the void deck they tend to get into trouble and get into fighting causing the school to be bad in the eye of the public hence teachers are sent out on patrol around the void deck to catch these student and prevent them from being caught misbehaving in the eye of public.Only the libary is not on the list of fobidden places.they could only go if they fill in a form and get it approved by the Discipline Mistress or Operation Manager.

Q2) Do you agree with this rule? Explain your answer.

I sort of agree with this rule as loitering might lead to unwanted trouble and someone could get injuired. but CSS should not place such a strict rule as some student may want to have lunch at the nearby shopping centre but cause of this rule, they might be mistaken for misbehaving.
Therefore i think this rule is a bit too strict and there could be some amendment done to it
